A postcard saved with the work is postmarked January 2, 1912 and in it, Mrs. Plewis wishes Thomson a prosperous New Year. Thomson boarded with Mrs. Plewis in 1911 and she sent him this New Year’s card in 1912. Presumably he came to visit her with the postcard and this work as a gift.
