Remarks

In a letter from Ottelyn Addison to Dr. R.H. Hubbard, 15 April 1969, Addison writes that Mrs. Crombie particularly asked Thomson to sign the work. He used a nail to incise his signature, Addison recalled, and added that the sketch depicts a winter lumber road behind Mowat Lodge. Addison writes, “Mrs Crombie particularly admired the long shadows on the snow” (Curatorial accession files, National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa).
