Examining the wood grain of the original panels of Wood Interior and Autumn Birches (visible along the edges only) and the plywood backing, it appears that the panel is the recto or verso of what was originally a single panel. (This conclusion is also supported by the original acquisition documents). The verso was once Poplar Hillside, Fall 1916 (1916.157).
