Robert McMichael in One Man’s Obsession (1986) writes that Tom Thomson told Thoreau MacDonald to whom he gave the three sketches of deer that his insight into wild animals was confined to nearby Riverdale Park in Toronto. “The drawings had been made at the Toronto zoo!,” concluded McMichael.
