Remarks

Nancy Eves of Queensville, Ontario, the granddaughter of Percy James Robinson (1873-1953), and Lisa Anderson, Peterborough, Ontario, his great granddaughter, own a photograph of pines on Pine Island, South Pine, Georgian Bay. The photograph shows the group of trees on the island which Thomson painted in this sketch, though from the rear. The resemblance, however, is close enough to indicate that Thomson painted this sketch in Georgian Bay. South Pine once belonged to Joan Howard (b. August 14, 1918), left to her by her grandfather William James Loudon in 1954. Howard was married to Gilbert de Beauregard Robinson, the son of Percy James Robinson. The island was in Howards name until she gave it to the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
